Two new books by Jean Jacques André

JJ André has two new limited edition books for sale on his website. The first book, Mythica, features an extensive collection of his fabulous montage work. The second, Muses & Models is a photographic history of the dozens of models he has worked with over his more than 50 year career. I'm also honoured to report that I had the privilege of writing the Introduction to Muses & Models. With only 100 signed copies of each available, this is an opportunity to own a highly collectable art book that won't be around for long.

Harold Lloyd

It's been a while since I posted a classic photographer, so to rectify that, here's a portfolio of 1950's great Harold Llyod.

Emil Schildt

Danish photographer and master of lighting painting, Emil Schilt, has long been one of my personal favourites. I've featured him here several times, but I don't think I've seen his photo.net profile before. It's a nice "one stop" introduction to this influential photographer.

Jean Jacques Andre

The last of the three site updates I'm posting today gives me particular pleasure. Regular readers will recall that a couple of months back, JJ Andre, my mentor and dear friend had a serious health crisis. He'd had a heart attack and then experienced numerous miserable complications as a result. Now I am very happy to report that not only is he recovering, but has been spending his convalescence completely updating his website.

M. Andre, je suis heureux que vous êtes encore en vie!

Man Ray

I'll wrap up this week's post with one of the greats, surrealist master Man Ray. This site has a staggering amount of his work, searchable by theme and medium. Although some of the thumbnails don't work properly, this is still an amazing resource.

Pretty Girl Shooter

This is just a little plug, apropos of nothing in particular, for Jimmy D's Pretty Girl Shooter. Jimmy is a professional glamour photographer in California, and he has got more photographic knowledge in his pinky finger than just about any other blogger out there. On his blog he routinely shares his opinions on gear, lighting techniques, and making a living as a working photographer in the jungles of Los Angeles. He's a great, entertaining writer too. So if you want some wisdom from a font of knowledge, check out this site.

Imogen Cunningham

It's good to re-connect with the classics sometimes. Here's a wonderful collection of Imogen Cunningham's work including some very early images dating back as far as 1910.

Frank Herholdt

There's not a lot of photography on Frank Herholdt's site whose central theme is the figure (although there is some), but nonetheless, I had to post this because I think he has some of the most stunning lighting and art direction I've encountered for years. Wonderful, wonderful stuff. Don't miss this one.

Ralph Gibson

I don't normally link to individual galleries within a website. However, photographer Ralph Gibson's career spans more than 40 years and there is so very much to see on his site, I've gone straight to his Wounded Nurse series. It's up to you to explore from there.
