Tallulahs Vintage Nude Pose Files- Classical Nudes

I've always had a soft spot for vintage nudes and Tallulahs.com has an impressive archive of images. I regularly draw inspiration for poses from some of these classics.

I'm pleased to report that a gallery of my work has been added to the Fine Art Nudes Kyoto website. This popular and well designed website is run by Japanese photographer Tsutomu Otsuka.

Micha?l David Andr?

More SX70 work, only this time considerably more disturbing and dark.
Michael David Andre uses optical and magnifying lens in front of the camera lens to create nightmarishly distorted images.

Czech and Slovak Staged Photographs

Autumn Psychotherapy and Other Experiences #36, 1988
Artist: Kamil Varga

Here's an interesting exhibition of 12 different Czech & Slovac photographers who all work in the "Staged Photography" style. As this is something I'm become more interested in for my own work, I thought this would be the perfect time to post this link.

From the introduction:

"Staged photography is one of the most creative uses of the medium. Everything comes from the mind of the artist and has to be constructed to be photographed-especially for those working in the studio who begin with a blank slate (there are no references to time or place). Because of the way the artists work, this kind of photography has ties to theatre and dance, sculpture, "happenings," and literature. Photography is particularly well suited to producing narrative fictions because on some level we believe in them, and because they are always out of context-the viewer is invited to weave the "before" and "after" sections of the story themselves."

Vladimir Clavijo-Telepnev

There is some really very good work here from this Russian artist. Look under Sensuality for a sequence of nude 'retro' poses of style and elegance.

Marco Barsanti Photography

Nice, tasteful work by Italian photographer Marco Barsanti. I only wish there were more images on his site.

Santo Barbieri

From time to time I like to feature the work of the photographers that visit this blog, and have a little "Reader Profile" this is one of those times. Santo Barbieri is a fellow Canadian who works in a broad range of subjects. For what he calls his Sensual images, he makes the interesting choice of using Polaroid SX70 film. This give the images an unusual and pleasing quality.

Wicked Swank- Main

I went to Robyn Swank's first ever solo show last night and I had an absolute blast. This work is not for all tastes, but it was so refreshing to go to a show with so little pretension and attitude. I chatted briefly with the artist and she won me over by describing her work like this: "Basically me and my friends just get really drunk, dress up like zombies and run around taking pictures." Of course, in reality it's more complicated than that. This woman really knows how to take photos and has a fine tuned aesthetic sense, but the lack of artistic B.S. was a real treat.

One of my friends bought one of her cabinets of curiousity and we all had many drinks and lots of laughs. Ms. Swank is still in her early 20s, so no doubt her work will change and mature, but right now it's got that perfect mix of experimental zeal and plain creepy fun that only young artists can pull off.

The show runs until Nov. 28th at the Fifty Fifty Arts Collective, 2516 Douglas St., Victoria BC

Voelker Nudes

I've finally finished the new web site for Christopher Voelker's nude work. It's called, well, Voelker Nudes. It was hard to choose a photo to put up here because I've been looking at these pictures for a long time, many of them for years. I still love the mirror series from a few years back though. Chris has a dark style and although you may see some of the clichés that were mentioned in an earlier post, I think Chris does them justice.

You might also want to see Chris' commercial and non-nude work at his main site Voelker Studio.

Well I'm off to Las Vegas again (for work, not pleasure) so no posts til the weekend at least. In the meantime, I encourage you to check out some of the links on the left side of this page. There are some great photographers and lots of other worthwhile links such as my biggest referrer, Indie Nudes or Gatochy's Blog who has been sending me a ton of links lately.

See you next week!

A small selection of images from celebrity portraitist and art star Timothy Greenfield-Sanders' series, "Thinking XXX", which features side by side images of 30 adult film stars both clothed and nude. He's turned the project into an exhibit, a book, and even a film complete with a separately marketed sound track.

SHEDWORKS - uncommon scenes

No less than 34 different photographers' work can found at the SHEDWORKS webpage. A large proportion of the photos are of the "industrial erotica" school, (this means naked girls in decaying buildings.) Not my favourite style, but there are a few gems here if you explore.

Some fine work by German photographer Ralph Man. Too bad he has such a frustrating website. Flash slide shows that aren't controllable by the viewer are one of my pet peeves.

Stefan Beyst & Virgil Brill

Stefan Beyst has written an essay on the photos of a 'neo-pictorialist', Virgil Brill. From there, it's easy to find your way to Brill's site.
Stefan is also author of a nearly complete internet book called 'The Erotic Eye and Its Nude'. It's packed with photos, reasonably enough.

Ellen von Unwerth

Ellen von Unwerth, From Original Sin, 1998-99

OK, this is one of the very rare occassions where I'll put aside my personal preference and post according to popular opinion. I've never cared for Ellen von Unwerth's work. The whole light-weight erotic fantasies of the rich and beautiful thing leaves me cold. However, I've received many emails over the past year suggesting that I post some of her work, so here you go. (It must be that election I hear is going on South of here that's got me feeling all democratic...)

Feel free to tell me how mistaken I am, and how great Ms. von Unwerth's work really is in the comments section.
