My Lies = Wishes

Colin Blakley's imagery is fairly bleak and melancholy yet he avoids the common pitfalls and never comes across as being overwrought.

Bill Kane - SupremNudes

Maybe it's just because I've always liked propaganda art, but I think Bill Kane's photos combining nudes with Russian Suprematist art motifs are very cool.

Bill Kane - SupremNudes

I'd like to put out a call to the collective brain of the various readers of this blog. My photographic mentor is looking for a publisher for a book of his fine art nude photographs and montages. His collected work spans an incredible 50 years, and is of the highest quality. While he has been featured in magazines and so forth, has never been published in book form. Now he has reached his senior years, he'd like to publish this 50 year retrospective. So, my question is this... does anyone out there know any good publishers who might be worth approaching? Canadian companies would be best, but anything North American would do. Please leave your suggestions in the comments section below. Thanks!

1000 Imagens

Thousandimages.com is a posting forum in the vein of Photosig and Photoblink but with a higher number of European photographers. As with all of this type of forum, the quality of images is inconsistent, but it overall it appears to be well above average.

Thanks again to Gatochy who along with this link, just sent me a whole bunch of other ones.

Michael Barnes Photography

Well, after enduring two weeks of ongoing crazyiness from the portrait sitting client from hell including 2:00 AM phone calls, claims that she never received her negs and contact sheets despite delivery notification from the courier company, and too many weird rambling emails to count. I've finally realized that trying to make money on the side by making my "art" into a commercial venture may not be worth the stress. (Brooks, I don't know how you do it!)

Anyway, tonight I'm doing a shoot with dear friend and long time model K8, (that's her above) to remind myself what I actually LIKE about taking people's pictures.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Not many nudes on this site, but lovely work all the same. Dan Burkholder is a master of platinum printing, with prices to match.

I hope Michael will forgive me for some shameless self-promotion – I've just updated my website.

Barend Houtsmuller's nudes are smooth and quiet. That's good in my book. He uses interiors well.

Gunter Knop

Unfortunately many of the images in this gallery are a little small for my liking, but you'll definitely get the idea. Günter Knop doesn't shoot what you would call "from the hip." Many of his images involve large set pieces like the photo above and the images are very posed and deliberate. Being an advertising photographer myself, this appeals to me a bit. I can appreciate what must go into making these images. The web site for this gallery, is a bit confusing (and in German) so I'll point you to the menu for Knop and you can click around to see what else is in there if you dare.

Ernestine Ruben

Finding interesting photographers that haven't been showcased by Michael is tougher than it seems. I searched the archives for five different photographers that I wanted to post about until I found one that seemingly hasn't been posted yet. Whew! OK, Ernestine Ruben is a photographer and sculpter. I'd say more, but I'm tired and it's really about the pictures right?

Evolving Beauty - the fine art photography of Eric Boutilier-Brown

Fellow Canuck, Eric Boutilier-Brown creates outdoor nudes that avoid the cliches normally associated with this type of work. Great work with very professional presentation and marketing.

Retro Raunch

Time for a flashback. Although most of the images at this page are early cheesecake or erotica, lots of modern photographers like to do ironic pastiches of these styles so consider it reference material. If you don't buy that, consider that sometimes it's just fun to lighten up a bit.

There is no doubt that Misha Gordin's work is incredible. However, when you take into account that all this work is produced in a traditional darkroom rather than digitally, then it becomes nothing short of astounding.
