David Halliday

Male Nude (Knot), 1996
sepia toned silver print

David Halliday is based in New Orleans. While there are only a few nudes on his site, it's well worth a visit. In particular, be sure to check out his masterful Still Life gallery. The man is a true photographer's photographer.

City Pages: Girl, Interrupted

Wow. Although this is completely unrelated to the topic here, I have to post this news. I don't generally indulge in the blog geek thing, but I've just discovered that the Plain Layne blog was an elaborate hoax. If you've never heard of Layne, this will mean nothing to you, but if you have, it'll be a bombshell.

I personally wrote to thank "her" when she linked to this blog several months ago. As a result I got hundreds of hits and made a habit of stopping by and reading her blog periodically. Turns out much to the shock of her thousands of regular readers, "she" is a 35 year old father of two...

David Niles - Nudes

The work of David Niles has a nice ethereal feel to it.

Just for fun, here's a cute collection of bathing themed images I found over at sugar-n-spicy. The site is in German, but I believe this translates to "Venus in the bathtub" Any German speakers are welcome to correct me...

CNEWS - Weird News: Spencer Tunick breaks Montreal's mass nude photo record in Cleveland

"Spencer Tunick, a photographer known for taking pictures of dozens, hundreds or thousands of naked people in public places, snapped the photos for the shoot set up by Cleveland's Museum of Contemporary Art.

He posed 2,754 people to set a North American record for the largest group of naked people in a photograph. Montreal had the previous record with 2,500."

Dianora Niccolini - Photographer

"I am a fine art photographer and considered by many to be the female pioneer of the male nude in photography, a trend setter. Photographing the male nude now is commonplace, but a quarter of a century ago it was a different matter. It was not considered an art form but rather was relegated to homoerotic pornography..."

Nadim R. Sabella - fine art photography

Some nice work by Nadim R. Sabella, a young German born photographer who now lives in California. I just wish there was more images...

"Night Chicas is an anthropological tour through a damaged landscape of various Guatemalan prostitutes. Photographer Hans Neleman travels over the bodies of these women conscious that their stories are best unearthed through the vessels of their trade."

While more photojournalism than "art nudes", Night Chicas is an important body of work that certainly warrants posting.

Documento senza titolo

Hi all. Sorry for the long gap between postings, I've been too busy enjoying the beautiful summer weather to be indoors on the computer.

I get a lot of "calls for submission" to various photo contests, etc. most seem shady at best, but this one sounds interesting and doesn't cost a dime. It's an email only submission that will result in your work being projected on a large screen at an Expo in Brescia, Italy. The theme is Public Diary.

Jean Jacques Andre

JJ Andre has been making excellent fine art figure photographs for over 50 years. Lately, he's traded his Hasselblad for a laptop and a digital camera and has been working on a book of photo montages.

His importance to me is personal, because JJ is single handedly responsible for my own interest figure photography. I first met him in 1995 when I was fresh out of art school and shortly afterwards I began working for the company he founded. His irrepressible enthusiasm and remarkable skill inspired me to turn from the grim industrial landscapes I was doing to nudes. I'm still struggling to get anywhere close to his level, and I probably always will be but I'm just glad he's finally got a web gallery so I can share his work with you.

I'm back from my journey and thought I'd start with an old favourite. Ao Gunji is one of the best photographers working in what I've come to call the "Japanese style". By this, I mean he creates series of intimate images with the same model. This is usually done in a domestic setting with natural lighting. The end result is a photo essay, rather than a single iconic image with the focus on the model as an individual rather than as an object. These are tender and non-explict studies in sensuality rather than overtly sexual strip shows.

There are lots of new images since I last visited. Don't miss this website.

I love finding truly unusual work with models. French photographer Pascal Renoux certainly breaks out of the normal with these terrific, if slightly disturbing photos.

Hoyle Photo

Jim Hoyle is a photographer based in North Carolina, and a regular Art Nudes blog visitor.

"My portfolio contains an extensive array of figure models. When shooting nudes, I pay attention to what the frame and muscles are doing instead of the outer skin. The internal body structure is the most important part of figure modeling. Nudes present my biggest artistic challenge. The nude has been the subject of many an artist. It has been done so often that it is challenging to bring anything new to the medium. The photographs in my nude gallery represent my vision for capturing the essence of the human form."

One West / Nudes / Mirrored

Although he is most famous as the photographer who discovered Marilyn Monroe, Andre Dedienes' first love was fine art figure photography. This site features three galleries of his nudes including these truly surreal pre-photoshop "mirror nudes". Take your hand or a piece of paper and hold it halfway over the above photo and you'll be amazed. (Well I was at least)

Michael Barnes Photography - Figure Gallery

It's here! My website has finally been completely revised and updated. Even better, I finally now have the ability to add photos or modify text at any time without so much messing around with HTML. Hopefully this means no more going 2 years without any changes.

Please come by and check out my new home on the web.

Michael Barnes Photography

I'd like to ask all you out there to email me if you have any comments, critiques or suggestions on the new website. If any scans look crumby, links don't work or images don't load, please let me know!

I'm currently printing the rest of the series that the image above comes from, so I'll be adding even more new work soon.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy the new site.

Michael
