PHOTO VERDEAU

Here's an incredible collection of vintage nudes. There's even a couple by the elusive Studio Manasse that Erik was searching for. (The image above is by them)

German photographer Martin Pudenz's photos are decidedly out of the ordinary.

In the spirit of Michael's retrospective urge, I've tried in vain to find a decent site for Studio Manassé's work in pre-war Vienna. There is the one book, Divas and Lovers, but it would be nice to be able to see a collection of their work on the net.

Anyone know where to find one?

George Eastman House William Mortensen Series

Some of these 1920's era photographs by William Mortensen clearly show the influence of the surrealist photographers.

Paul Frecker - Nineteenth Century Photography

Like much vintage nude photography, early gay erotica was often billed as artistic reference images for painters or sculptors, or as scientific studies for those interested in anatomy. Here's an interesting collection of early male nude "athletic" photographs.

Now for something out of the ordinary but still topical. Michael Gross is a former Hollywood producer turned pornographer. He emailed me this link to a tutorial he wrote on lighting, posing and shooting nudes. Although it's all written from a porn perspective, his tips and tricks are well worth reading if you are an entry level photographer. While some images are suggestive, there is no overly explicit content on this page.

P.S. Before anyone writes me and gives me a hard time, I know he's advertising his paysite here and that's against my rules. However, this article falls under what I'd consider "significant free content".

On the Road

On the Road

I'm off to Alaska for a couple days, so no posts from me until Thursday.

In the meantime, does anyone know any Alaskan photographers who do nudes? If so, please post a link in the comments section below.

See you all soon.

Loic Peoch

I occasionally post fashion photographers here because as commercial photographers, they not only have to maintain high standards of quality, but in such a competitive field they also have to be constantly pushing the creative envelope as well.

Here some super slick work by French fashion photographer Loic Peoch.

Erotica Photographica

Although much of the work on this site consists of rather poor "erotica", I couldn't resist the novelty of the fact that this group of artists all work in either stereo views or anaglyphs. I took a 3-D photography course a couple years back and I still find it fascinating.

Photographer Elena Martyniuk produces seriously gorgeous work! The site is all in Russian, but it isn't hard to figure out. Make sure to look at all the categories, not just the nudes, as there is excellent figurative work in all of them.

Your Gallery - Show your art to the world

I've had several photographers approach me who wanted to show their work here, but didn't have a website of their own. I may have a solution for them, and another promotional opportunity for the rest of you.

The Saatchi Gallery has created a new website which allows any artist to promote their work for free. The easy interface allows you to upload a sample (8 images maximum) of your work along with biographical information and links to your main site.

In its short history over 700 artists (mainly painters and printmakers) have uploaded their work and profiles. They need more photographers! According to the webmaster, the site attracts an average of 15,000 visitors per day. Best of all, it's is not a commercial venture.

Naturally, I was a bit skeptical so I set up a gallery of my own to test it out before I posted it here. I can happily report that it took about 5 minutes from start to finish and seems to be all it promises to be.

Check it out and if you set up a gallery, send me the link!
