Stephen Berkman

Stephen Berkman's ambrotypes and camera obscura installations make all kinds of sly and humourous references to old Victorian cliches. There is only a couple nudes on his site, but even if there were none, I'd still want to post this talented artist.

Le Paradis perdu (detail)
I really like this series of images by Yan Amstutz, especially the long multiple image format and the references to allegorical and biblical themes.

Galerie Georg Gasz

I've post these before, but they are worth a second look. Austrian photographer Georg Gasz uses multiple models to create interesting snowflake like symmetries.
(Thanks to Gerhard for letting me know that Gasz is Austrian, not German.)

Reader Survey-Where do you live?

High contrast, outdoor nudes by Greek photographer Tsantakis Manolis. These have an infra-red look to them, but he may just be using heavy red/orange filtration.

Portfolio - Frantisek Drtikol

Czech photographer Frantisek Drtikol (1883-1961) is without a doubt, one of the great stylistic innovators in fine art photography. Active in the art world only until 1935, his work is synonymous with the Art Deco movement. If you aren't familiar with this incredible artist, now is your chance.

IMAGE LATENTE | LATENT IMAGE photo writings, visual stories

Above image by insousciance from her series Tri-X
Image Latente | Latent Image is an excellent French art photo site described as:
"...a virtual gallery dedicated only to photographic suites which tell stories. There may be words or none, a real account or none, and even beauty or none.
What matters is the idea of a sequence: from one image to another, something is in progress: in the story, in someone's look… It is also supposed to talk to you: sequences come with a soundband, or they are reinterpreted with words by the photographer himself or by another author, as a dialogue."
Be sure to check it out and enjoy some of the excellent French photographers featured on the site.

Paul Mahder Photography

American photographer Paul Mahder creates elaborate textured images using strictly traditional techniques and large format transparencies. He also does some very impressive photography with dancers in his "Flying Nudes" series. I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone else using a 4x5 view camera for this type of work.

Night Photographs & other work - editorial fashion photography

D. Brian Nelson wrote to let me know that after a two year hiatus, he's back doing photography. His use of existing light, whether it's street lights or hotel lamps, gives his work a look that I've always liked.
