On vacation! After spending the first three days of my holiday scraping, sanding and priming my house I'm off to beautiful Gabriola Island for four days of drinking, badminton, barbequing and relaxing. See you next week!

Superbly executed and delightfully surreal photomanipulation by English photographer Dominic Rouse.

Dylan Ricci wrote me a nice note this morning thanking me for the mention on the blog.
Anyway, I think that Dylan's work deserves an image to go along with the link. In my opinion, he's one of today's best photographers working exclusively with male models.

H E R B R I T T S

I don't post a lot of male nudes. This is not just because of my own personal preference, but because there's so few photographers who do it well. Then again it could also be that far fewer men have the physique for modeling too. Nonetheless, the late fashion and celebrity photographer Herb Ritts made male models look good.
(Update: Thanks to an astute reader that let me know that Herb Ritts passed away in 2002.)

If you're are interested in another photographer who uses male models, you should also check out the work of Dylan Ricci.

Thanks to Antonio for both of these links.

Beautiful photographs of dancers by Karim Ramzi. I found the navigation on this site to be a bit confusing, but don't give up, it's worth it.

Artshole.co.uk Photography Galleries in London and UK
The humourously named Artshole website provides opportunities for new and emerging artists to show thier work online. Their photography gallery features lots of fresh young talent, some more mature than others, but there are definitely some gems.

Weblog Ethics Survey Results
Although completely off topic, since I was one of the bloggers that was asked to participate in this survey, I wanted to post the results of the Ethics in Blogging survey, a thesis project done by some graduate students from Singapore.

Each week New Nude Magazine's online edition has a different Photographer of the Week. In the past they've featured some very talented artists. This week's photographer looks a bit suspect, but his photos are OK.

#6700098 :: portfolio of photographs

I was pleased today to hear from Japanese photographer Takaci Hirano telling me he's updated his website. I've followed his work for sometime, and I really enjoy it. While the images aren't technically great, there is something intriguing in the way the series he produces come together into visual stories as you click through them one at a time.

Women in Shadow and Light

"Currently, my work is focused on two projects: the book Women in Shadow and Light and the photographic exhibit from which it evolved, Out of the Shadows. Both feature forty women who found the courage to triumph over abuse. Photographs combine with text to portray the essence of each woman’s journey to healing. The projects use art to empower women by focusing on hope, strength and healing—not violence and victimization."
Photography teacher and author Jan Goff Lafontaine's work provides dignity and healing to women who need it. Her webpage provides lots of details about her projects, but not as many images as one could hope for. Still I encourage you to visit her site and learn about this unusual approach to art as healing tool.

[Terminal 1] Furniture and Naked People #5 - Henrik Purienne

By way of something on a lighter note for the weekend, here's an amusing project by The Modernist magazine. Their descriptive says it all:
"Furniture and Naked People is an ongoing project in which we ask our favorite photographers to pair naked people with icons of modern design."
Happy Canada Day everyone!
