#6700098 Takaci Hirano Photography
I've long been a fan of Japanese photographer Takaci Hirano's serial documentary style, so I was very pleased when he wrote to let me know he'd updated his website with some new images. If you're unfamiliar with his work, he creates series of images of his models in all sorts of daily life situations ranging from the common place to the extremely private. The result is a look into these women's lives that is intimate to a degree I don't think I've ever seen elsewhere.

Virginia Beach police seize photos from Abercrombie store | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com
I don't do politics and censorship much here, mainly because I know it's an exercise in frustration, but I swear, when I read a story like this I begin to despair for the future. A shopping mall store was raided and the manager cited with obscenity charges for displaying the photo above, and one other. The other image is of a woman who is topless and whose "breast is displayed with her hand covering just the nipple portion".
Doesn't anyone living in the United States NOT see that they are doing exactly what the Taleban would have done ? What makes me sadder/angrier are some of the comments praising the decision to get rid of this "sick porn", etc. What the hell is so offensive about the human body ? (Stops writing before a curse filled rant ensues)

Photographer Steve Richard
I'm a big fan of fellow Canadian Steve Richard's work, so I was really excited to hear he'd updated his website with two new series of images. I wasn't disappointed. The series are entitled, "Red" and "The Surface". While I really enjoy them both, some of the images in "The Surface" are simply breath-taking. Don't miss this one.

I was recently contacted by a rather remarkable young woman named Isobella Jade. Now those people who know me personally know that I have a pretty thick crust when it comes to stuff like this, but I have to say I was sincerely impressed by this woman's drive and determination. Despite being only 5'-3" Isobella dreams of a career as a model, and she pursues it relentlessly. Living out of a suitcase and existing on budget fast foot meals, she's authored a book written entirely at a public terminal at the SOHO Apple Store, maintains a website, and keeps up not one, but three blogs, all while spending each day hustling around New York trying to scare up paying gigs.
If you know any aspiring models, I'd recommend you share these links with them.
