David Piercey Photography and Design

David Piercey is a Victoria BC photographer and a friend of mine. His work has a delicate sensibility and a subtlety that's often lacking in figure photography.

Silvereye, Guido Argentini

Here is some fine work by professional photographer Guido Argentini. I find the work in his "erotic" gallery strongly reminscent of Helmut Newton.

33images

Jay Gumm really works his images using both digital and traditional manipulation to give his images a beautifully distressed look. He's also one of the relatively rare figure photographers that work exclusively with male models. Great stuff.

Album Ana Casas Broda

Ana Casas Broda
Diet Journals

The work of Ana Casas Broda is intensely personal and broad reaching without ever becoming self-indulgent or moralistic. Her photos and text explore self image, family relationships, memory and nationality in equal measure. Amazing stuff.

"Since we left for Mexico I often return to Vienna to see Omama, my grandmother. I immerse myself in the albums as if they hide a secret, the key to some mystery.

I can’t tell the difference between the photographs and my memories. I don’t know anymore if I constructed them from the images."

Indie Nudes

Good news, your blog host now has real life gallery representation. Last night was the grand opening of the Fine Forum gallery and I'm proud to say that three of my pieces are on display. If you happen to be in Victoria BC, the gallery is located in Fan Tan Alley in Chinatown, drop in and have a look.

Also, I've just found out that this blog has been linked to by Indie Nudes This has given me a nice spike in my traffic. So, if you're coming here via Indie Nudes, welcome! Don't forget to explore the archives for lots more posts.

Margi Geerlinks

In Margi Geerlinks' series "Crafting Humanity" the body becomes a malleable putty that can be shaped and modified at will. The results are both unsettling and engaging.

Kevin Gruyé

Kevin Gruyé used extensive digital manipulation to create these images that for me at least, bring to mind the paintings of Breugel or Bosch. They are from his 1999-2001 series "Clank, Boom, Bang"

I recommend you also check out his "Heroes of a People" series.

Jaro Sy´kora - photographer

The work of Slovakian photographer Jaro Sykora is strong and disturbing. Using models ranging from the elderly to alcoholics, his photographs are not about the beauty of the human form. Rather they seem to me to be symbolist meditations on human fraility and vunerability.

Judge for yourself here.

iconic image: james mckenna, photographer

Furies,
James McKenna

"people ask, what are the your pictures about? well, life is hard, and strange; my pictures are about that. beauty turns up in unlikely places. my pictures are about that, too. hope is fragile, but hope is all we have. mostly my pictures are about that. ultimately, the pictures are what they are to you. their meaning lies within yourself. i meant something when i made them, but that's over now"

I'm pretty sure I've featured this photographer before, but this definitely bears re-posting. If, like me, you've ever found it difficult to find interesting poses for your models, you've got to visit Peter Vanstralen's website. Not only does he make fine images, he gets his models into some of the most amazing poses I've ever seen. Brilliant stuff. I'm adding this one to the perma-links section.
