"... And, naturally, elements of satire or post-"Pop"ulist deconstructivism are never far from the surface of Newton's work. Like, for instance, the photographer's parody of America's buxom, bikini-clad Rigid Tools bimbos, with a leering Aryan wench wielding a wickedly functional Bauwelt hedge-trimmer like an implement of totalitarian Teutonic torture."

OK, I'll admit I'm not really sure what's going on with this one. This site documents the lives of a young Japanese couple in their cramped and messy apartment. The photos are of their most intimate moments and their most mundane. Furthermore, most photos link to pages with even more photos and various other surprises. It is a dense and mysterious site. It may just be because I can't read the text that I think that it's strangely compelling and poetic, but I think it's more than that. The photos while amateurish and technically bad have a charm that can't be denied.
Here is the site

"Women Running Naked is a project that involves a healthy dose of exhibition, a certain amount of innocent sexuality and twenty-four frames from a single roll of film. Each and every frame from a run is shown in succession without edit. The outright laughter, the passers-by, the shake, the jiggle and the unpredictable nature of the process is shown in totality for each shoot. Each run goes rather quickly since the entire piece is shot with an auto winder while I run close behind or slightly ahead of the subject. It is very spontaneous except for a simple walk-thru to make sure we do not run somewhere we shouldn't. Although, I have nearly killed myself running through an abandoned building while screaming, "Don't stop! Keep going!" as I headed towards the ground after tripping on some bits of wood."

It's time for an Art Nudes reader profile.
Jeff Ramsdale is a Seattle photographer, and the one responsible for finding so many of the pregnancy photography links. He considers himself an enthusiast amateur.
He's got a small sampling of his work on Photo.net. Check it out here.

Do you have a web page or on-line gallery? Let me know about it. I'd like to start regularly featuring the work of the photographers that visit this blog.

"Since the end of 1989, Michal Macku has used his own creative technique which he has named "Gellage" (the ligature of collage and gelatin).
The technique consists of layering exposed and fixed photographic gelatin on paper. This transparent and plastic substance makes it possible to reshape and reform the original images, changing their relationships and endowing them with new meanings. The finished work gives a compact image with a fine surface structure. Printed on photographic quality paper, each Gellage is a highly durable print eminently suited for collecting and exhibiting."

Today we have a great big theme post on pregnancy photography. Reader Jeff R. wrote to tell me he was going to be doing some photos for a friend and asked if I could recommend any good sites to serve as inspiration. I sent him a few that I knew of, and then he wrote back with a bunch more that he had found. Together we came up with a pretty good list of sites dealing with this particular form of figure photography.
So, without further ado here are the links:

If Joel Peter Witkin started doing erotica, it would probably look something like the work of Marzena Kawalerowicz and Zbigniew Reszka.

Who is the mysterious blogger/photographer behind deFocused.net?
I don't know, but both the blog and the photos are well worth checking out.

"Life is a negotiation of the self and the mythological concepts of love, fear, sex, death, security and courage. These narrations of the spirit transcend time & space and are the threads of which the tapestry of life is woven.
The resulting self portraits are archetypal in their exploration of the human condition. They are unashamedly declarations of beauty and faith in life."
New York photographer & teacher Cig Harvey's work exudes feminine lightness and delicacy yet still maintains an enigmatic quality that transends any cliches.

For all of you who look at Maxim or Playboy and wonder where they find such perfect specimens of womanhood, I refer you to this incredible example of just how much of a difference Digital retouching can make to a photo.

Fanciful, tragi-comic and surreal are the words that spring to mind when I try to describe the work of Beligian Photographer Alan Tex.
Here is an all too small gallery of his work in french or although badly mangled, here is the Google Translated Version

The work of photography John Casado is lyrical, fluid, mysterious and exquisitely executed. He is without a doubt a modern master.
"Our culture has given us a media world filled with naked people. There is no need to imagine anything anymore. Nothing about the body is private. What is left is the mystery of how people interpret the figure for themselves and what symbols they attach in their most primitive soul searching. For both the artist and the viewer it comes down to a private affair... a quiet meeting in the dark." John Casado-Statement (exerpt)

This is cool. This guy's turned an old panel truck into an enormous camera. Which for some reason he calls "Peanut"
